Each major city in the world is full of the people described above. They are called Wannabes, as in, “I want to be famous. I want to be rich. I want to have my name in lights and my face recognized wherever I go.” We should know that acting is an art, a craft, and a science. It is measured and exacting, and requires years of study to perfect. The best actors never stop training, studying, or honing their craft. Their thirst for perfection is never quenched.
Acting is not easy, though making it look effortless is part of a good actor’s gift. Some get carried away with the, “Oh, for me, it’s nothing.” attitude, and scoff at the idea of acting as work, as if it was only a fluke of nature that got them where they are, and they would be happily doing something else if this career hadn’t happened along when it did. Don’t believe them; it’s probably all hype.
Acting is some of the most difficult work you will ever do. It wears on you from the inside out, being a physical, mental and emotional challenge simultaneously. Only people with immeasurable drive, dedication, and determination, those who absolutely must act or die, ever truly succeed as respected actors.
